Srubbing Machines

We do not use heavy automated machines.

Unlike other cleaners who use heavy machinery which “mimics” hand-washing, Capital Rug’s approach is genuine & Eco-friendly.

All work is done by hand using only a brush (long handle), organic rug shampoo/soaps, & plenty of clean, cold water.

Rugs do not mix with other rugs when washing.

Your rugs are not mixed with the other jobs we have. We want to make sure that we avoid cross-contamination between jobs.

All rugs with urine get tested for colorfastness (mostly handmade wool rugs) and deep washed (immersed separately) to thoroughly flush out all contaminants.

Ignored pet accidents will cause the rug dyes to bleed on natural fiber rugs, which be permanent damage.

We do not steam clean rugs or clean in-home.

With steam cleaning: as quickly as the solution and steam are sprayed onto the rug it is extracted by the machine.

This is problematic, especially with wool rugs. Dirt-bearing water that is not fully extracted from the carpet can result in soggy carpet, browning or wicking, mildew, shrinkage, or damaged backing, padding, and floors.

Our Time-Tested Rug Washing Process

Before wetting or scrubbing, we need to know a few important details.

Rug Inspection

We begin by carefully inspecting your rugs for damaged and weak areas.

We never wash two rugs together or side by side and they never share the same unclean water – eliminating cross-contamination problems.

1
Dust Removal

Your rugs will be inspected, tagged with your info and rug needs. When the rug is ready to be washed, we make sure we dust your rug to remove loose dirt, grit, unwelcome particles, hair, etc. Both front and back is vacuumed after dusting.

Why is this important and how do we do it?

Long ago, rugs were manually beaten to get this dust out. Today, Capital Rug Cleaning has the equipment necessary to get this done under control. Rug dusting is done at our rug cleaning facility. Our machine beats the rug and vacuums the dust and at the same time.

Settlement of dust, sand, or grit lay at the foundation of your rug and reduce the life of a oriental carpet by causing premature wear. Your rugs are dusted to bring out these particles. An extremely important step in the process, it cannot be performed in your home.

Many carpet cleaners are forced to skip this step. Most are unaware of the importance of dusting rugs before wetting them. Also, in-home carpet cleaners that offer steam cleaning your rugs – miss this step 100% of the time. It is not recommended top steam clean natural fiber carpets – especially hand knotted wool area rugs.

2
Rug Washing by Hand

Soaked and scrubbed both front and back with plenty of clean water and rug shampoo (non-toxic).
3
Rinse Completely

We make sure no residue of any cleaning or spotting agents is left in the rug. The rug is rinsed completely and hung to dry.

4
Dry 100%

After washing, rinsing, and wringing, your rugs are hung in a controlled drying room. Depending on the thickness and fiber material, it will take 8-12 hours to completely dry your rugs.

If we determine the rug needs another wash, it will be washed again safely. If not, we’ll bring it down from the rack and give last inspection.

5
Wrap for Protection

Rugs will be wrapped for protection. You will be notified to collect or we’ll schedule your delivery.
