Capital Rug was one of the few places that could clean my flokati rug, and they did a wonderful job. I will bring all my other rugs to them for the same expert care. The owner and his son were a pleasure to work with. I highly recommend them for your rug needs. Thank You very much!!!

The repair work was outstanding. You cannot tell where any of the rather extensive damage done by the family feline were. The binding of this carpet was also almost completely replaced. The cleaning was on the same high level as the repair.

Rug Cleaning Services in Baltimore for Silk, Persian, Oriental, Wool and Luxurious Rugs

Expert rug cleaners for silk oriental carpets and rugs.

With over 30 years of experience, we specialize in traditional hand cleaning of silk carpets, rugs, and runners.

Silk is especially delicate, and cleaning it takes skill and caution.

Pure silk carpets and rugs, as well as those containing part silk and part wool, such as Persian or Turkish rugs, should be hand-washed.

We avoid soaking silk rugs and carpets and instead use very soft bristle brushes and light shampoos to gently massage the valuable threads by hand.

We tease each fiber in the pile’s direction, gently eliminating dust and contaminants and restoring shine.

We only utilize traditional methods and never use machinery,

and we meticulously clean everything by hand. This process gives the rug’s silk fibers a new lease on life, restoring their luster.

Free advice is always available.

Please feel free to contact us so that we can assist you in evaluating the best course of action for you right now.

Rug Cleaning Machines

Our Time-Tested
Rug Washing Process

Before wetting or scrubbing, we need to know a few important details.

Rug Inspection

We begin by carefully inspecting your rugs for damaged and weak areas.

We never wash two rugs together or side by side and they never share the same unclean water – eliminating cross-contamination problems.

1
Dust Removal

Your rugs will be inspected, tagged with your info and rug needs. When the rug is ready to be washed, we make sure we dust your rug to remove loose dirt, grit, unwelcome particles, hair, etc. Both front and back is vacuumed after dusting.

Why is this important and how do we do it?

Long ago, rugs were manually beaten to get this dust out. Today, Capital Rug Cleaning has the equipment necessary to get this done under control. Rug dusting is done at our rug cleaning facility. Our machine beats the rug and vacuums the dust and at the same time.

Settlement of dust, sand, or grit lay at the foundation of your rug and reduce the life of a oriental carpet by causing premature wear. Your rugs are dusted to bring out these particles. An extremely important step in the process, it cannot be performed in your home.

Many carpet cleaners are forced to skip this step. Most are unaware of the importance of dusting rugs before wetting them. Also, in-home carpet cleaners that offer steam cleaning your rugs – miss this step 100% of the time. It is not recommended top steam clean natural fiber carpets – especially hand knotted wool area rugs.

2
Rug Washing by Hand

Soaked and scrubbed both front and back with plenty of clean water and rug shampoo (non-toxic).
3
Rinse Completely

We make sure no residue of any cleaning or spotting agents is left in the rug. The rug is rinsed completely and hung to dry.

4
Dry 100%

After washing, rinsing, and wringging, your rugs are hung in a controlled drying room. Depending on the thickness and fiber material, it will take 8-12 hours to completely dry your rugs.

If we determine the rug needs another wash, it will be washed again safely. If not, we’ll bring it down from the rack and give last inspection.

When a rug still looks soiled after vacuuming, it’s probably time to have it cleaned. Try this test: Blot the nap of your rug in an inconspicuous spot with a damp white cloth. Let the cloth dry flat to see what was transferred from your rug. If the cloth is soiled, your rug would benefit from a cleaning.
It depends mostly on how much use the rugs get. Rugs in entries, hallways, kitchens and eating areas may need cleaning every six months. In lower traffic areas rugs may only need cleaning every three or four years. Light colored rugs, or ones made from less soil resistant fibers such as art silk or ‘Bamboo’ silk, may require more frequent cleaning.
Rugs can be washed—though carefully. It is the best way to remove as much soil as possible. No other cleaning method leaves your rug as fresh, soft and good-looking as wet cleaning.
We can wash most any kind of area rug such as Persian, Turkish, Chinese, Oriental rugs of any description (antique or new), wool, silk, Navajo, Karastan, Gabbe, flat-woven, hooked, braided, tufted, Tibetan, modern designer rugs, shag, Flokati. You name it and we can clean it. We also clean tapestries and collectable textiles.
We have safe ways of cleaning damaged and fragile rugs without causing further damage. Unstable areas are stabilized with hand-sewn screen mesh. Cleaning methods are modified for a specific rug’s needs. If you have any concerns, we look at your rug together to decide the appropriate protocol.
We use non-toxic and Eco-friendly solutions. We use a mild detergent and we are rinsing the rugs thoroughly, making sure there is no detergent left.
